One included varied experiences with patients over her 18 year nursing career. The other was the period she spent caring for her aging in-laws. During this time both developed communication and reading problems, each for different reasons. Despite their individualize decline, they both responded positively to the prototype of REMINISCENCE. This inspired Mary Beth to work full time at blending her nursing and writing skills to produce visually stimulating, easy-to-read books that enhance the quality of life of someone with dementia, and adds joy to visiting someone who has a difficult time communicating, reminiscing or remembering. Now, in collaboration with Laura Levitan, LSCW and Derek Ferebee, the team has produced the Caregiver Tools series for people with memory loss. The hope is this series empowers caregivers and the people they serve to have meaningful interactions. Laura Levitan, LCSW - Author and Photographer Laura is a licensed clinical social worker with expertise in both hospital and memory disorder clinic patients. Ms. Levitan has taught training classes for persons with dementia at numerous assisted living facilities, nursing homes, adult day care centers, churches and private homes. Ms. Levitan was nominated for the Frist Humanitarian Award. Laura’s experience with her grandmother inspired her to write this book after grappling with the art of communication in the dementia world. Derek Ferebee – Photographer and Author Raised in Pensacola, Florida, Derek has had a camera in his hands since the age of nine, photographing anything and everything of interest.  Since graduating from Troy State University where his study emphasized photography, Derek’s career has resulted in becoming an internationally published photographer.  He photographs weddings, family portraits, and can restore old photos. His photographic passions include landscape, wildlife and nature.
